Bogmalo is one of Goa’s more attractive beaches. Bounded by green hills on three sides, its grainy golden sand and big surf make Bogmalo a decidedly different experience from other beaches.

Out at sea is Grande Island. To the right, planes take off and land on the Dabolim Airport plateau.

Bogmalo is also a sort of city beach for the port town of Vasco da Gama, whose own beach is overrun by slums. Other closer beaches fall in the naval area, where public access is closed. The beach is clean and not too crowded, the water reasonably safe for swimming, and there are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop.

Map of Bogmalo Bagmalo offers a comprehensive water sports experience. One of Goa’s two PADI dividing centers is based here (the other is at Miramar). The British run outfit also offers half day "Try Dives" for novices, guided dives to shipwreck sites and coral beds off the coast and tuition for more advanced qualifications.

Besides, Bogmalo has been the venue for two Enterprises class world sailing championships.

Bogmalo can be reached by bus or taxi from Vasco da Gama, 8-km northwest. It's also near enough to the airport for a last minute dip before catching a plane.
